SCHEDULE

March 19 and 20, 2022 (Rain or Shine)

DAY 1: SATURDAY

Mandatory: Arrive at Homewood Central Park by 6:15am

Checkpoint 1: We depart Homewood Central Park at 6:30am sharp. The route roughly follows/parallels HWY 11. We will divide the ride into 3 Groups “Pelotons”. Each Peloton will have a leader who will set the pace. The group will stop at critical checkpoints to pick up any stragglers. There are plenty of gas stations and locations along the way to refill on water and make pit-stops etc.

Checkpoint 2: Back Forty Brewing Company in Gadsden. This is the half-way point for the ride. All Pelotons will reconnect for a burgers and beer before we set out again for the next 50 miles.

Checkpoint 3: Fern Bluff Camp on Wolf Creek (385 County Rd 47). A locally catered BBQ dinner will be served.

DAY 2: Sunday


Checkpoint 1: Fern Bluff Camp before departure

Checkpoint 2: Harp and Clover in Gadsden. The goal will be to stop, regroup and eat a good meal before setting out on the final 50miles.

Pelotons

(groups)

There will be three, organized “pelotons”, each represented by a Peloton Leader. Each leader will be responsible for setting the pace for their GROUP and accounting for all riders at each checkpoint. If a rider can’t keep up with their group’s set pace, they can wait at a checkpoint to join the next.


Peloton a

(INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED)

The experienced rider who wants to push themselves, hit climbs hard and continue to work on flats and downhills.

  • 17-18MPH PACE

  • Fewer Stops

Peloton B

(INTERMEDIATE)

The rider who has some mileage under their belt and wants to push a little harder than a beginner’s pace. This group will stay steady on climbs and flats and rest on the downhills.

  • 13-15MPH PACE

PELOTON C

(BEGINNER TO INTERMEDIATE)

The rider who just wants to complete the ride. This group will be very forgiving on pace with plenty of grace for stragglers.

  • 10-12MPH PACE


ACCOMMODATIONS

  • Primitive Campsite with water, limited power and port-a-potties

  • Participants are responsible for bringing their own tents, pads, bags, etc...

  • Must have completed and paid registration

  • Must have a signed waiver with emergency contact on file

  • Must sign in at each checkpoint

  • Must burn front and rear lights at all times

  • Must wear a proper helmet

  • Must stay with a Peloton at all times - no one may ride alone

  • Must travel with a cell phone

  • Must carry tool kit, first aid kit

Note this is an unsupported ride on open roads. However, we will have a back-up vehicle for those that cannot finish a started leg. All participants just camping or riding one leg are responsible for their own rides to/from the camp.
